Gupi and the King Who Doesn't Smile
Description
The story begins in an abandoned apartment inside their building, when Gupi and her friends enter to deliver a cake and, by passing through a closet in one of the rooms, arrive in a dark, otherworldly dimension. That place is dominated by the palace of the King Who Does Not Smile, whose sorrow has visibly spread across towns and streets: markets are subdued, public spaces empty, and everyday gestures have lost their warmth. Gupi discovers the kingdom’s malaise and sets out to reverse it, trying a range of concrete measures to restore joy to palace staff and ordinary citizens while encountering officials and residents shaped by the king’s mood. The film was released in 2026 and the cast includes Gupse Özay, Dora Kaplan, Ayris Kaplan and Rüzgar Özacun. Action moves from the apartment’s interior through the closet into the palace corridors, with episodes focused on how Gupi’s interventions change interactions, institutions and routines without resolving the king’s condition on screen. The story takes place in the abandoned apartment and the shadowed palace beyond its closet.
