Smooth World
Description
A battered radio sits on a folding table in a senior center lounge as older listeners tune and retune stations. Smooth World (2026) is a Documentary, Music film that documents the aftermath of smooth jazz’s exodus from the radio and the shift of the genre — once critically loathed — into a joy-filled social scene for senior citizens. The camera follows musicians and longtime fans who gather, recount the style’s decline, and organize themselves when the music’s continuity is threatened. The film records meetings, rehearsals and public conversations as artists and audiences band together to find a new leader who can keep Smooth World alive. Facing extinction, they must decide on a successor to carry the community forward; by the end the search is still underway and the genre’s future is unresolved.
