Two Times João Liberada

Description

João, an actress from Lisbon, faces significant conflict as she stars in a biopic about Liberada, a gender-nonconforming figure persecuted by the Portuguese Inquisition. Tensions arise between João and the film's director regarding the portrayal of Liberada's legacy. As production progresses, João experiences increasingly vivid dreams of Liberada's ghost, which complicates her understanding of the character and the film's direction. When the director suffers a mysterious paralysis, the project becomes chaotic, forcing João to confront not only the future of the film but also her own connection to Liberada's spirit. The cast includes June João, André Tecedeiro, Jenny Larrue, and Caio Amado Soares. The story unfolds during the turbulent period of the 18th century, where the intersections of art and history create a challenging landscape for João as she seeks to honor Liberada’s narrative while dealing with the unfolding crisis of the film’s production.
