Description

Territorial conflicts stemming from post-Soviet border demarcations in Central Asia create the central conflict in "Skylark." The film follows Abek, a Kyrgyz teenager raised by his grandmother, Ene, in a village near the Tajik border. After Ene's death, Abek embarks on a mission to bury her beside his grandfather, whose grave now lies across the newly defined frontier in Tajikistan. This quest reveals the historical wounds and tensions that still exist within the region. As Abek seeks to inter his grandmother, he encounters local folklore and the realities of the ongoing border disputes. The film captures his interactions with villagers and the challenges posed by the redrawn boundaries, illustrating the impact of these territorial divisions on personal lives.
