On the Edge
Description
Alexia, 25, begins her role as a trainee nurse in a psychiatric hospital’s closed ward, where she quickly encounters the challenges of her environment. The head nurse, Joëlle, instructs her in the routines and protocols of the ward. Alexia becomes particularly focused on Mila, a 20-year-old patient who expresses intense anger and distrust toward the staff. Despite Joëlle's warnings to maintain professional distance, Alexia's determination drives her to connect with Mila and advocate for her release. As the film progresses, Alexia invests significant effort in understanding Mila's situation, pushing against the established boundaries of care. She learns about the deeper issues affecting Mila’s mental health and becomes more involved in her case. This growing relationship complicates Alexia's training and causes tension with Joëlle, who emphasizes the importance of detachment in their work. The situation escalates as Alexia seeks ways to support Mila, leading to critical decisions that will impact both their lives.
