Restoration of Murnau’s ‘Sunrise’ Kicks Off Il Cinema Ritrovato Festival in Bologna

The 40th edition of Il Cinema Ritrovato Festival commenced in Bologna on Saturday, featuring a newly restored version of F.W. Murnau’s silent film, “Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans.” The event drew an enthusiastic crowd of approximately 7,000 attendees, who gathered in the historic Piazza Maggiore to experience the 1927 cinematic masterpiece.

This restoration aims to bring new life to Murnau’s influential work, which is celebrated for its innovative storytelling and visual techniques. Accompanying the screening, a live orchestra performed the film’s score, enhancing the immersive experience for the audience.
