Man Arrested in Mumbai for Impersonating Government Officer and Extorting Money

Mumbai police have arrested a man accused of posing as an officer from the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) to conduct unauthorized raids and extort money from local businesses. The individual reportedly drew inspiration from the film "Special 26," which features characters executing similar scams.

According to police reports, the suspect used fake identification to convince business owners of his authority. Following a series of recent inspections by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) commissioner, the accused capitalized on the heightened anxiety among entrepreneurs, leading them to pay him a total of Rs 10,000 to avoid potential penalties.

Upon his arrest, the suspect confessed to his actions, shedding light on the methods he employed to execute his scheme. Authorities are now investigating whether there are other individuals involved in similar fraudulent activities, as they work to ensure the safety and compliance of local businesses.
