Korean Box Office Sees Significant Growth in First Half of 2026
The Korean film industry reported a notable recovery in the first half of 2026, primarily driven by the success of local productions. Total box office revenue reached KRW 579 billion (approximately $399.1 million), marking an impressive increase in both revenue and admissions compared to the previous year.
During this period, the number of tickets sold reached 57.05 million, reflecting a year-on-year growth of 34.2%. This resurgence in audience attendance is significant as it indicates a steady rebound from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, which had severely affected cinema attendance in prior years.
The strong performance of Korean films has played a crucial role in this recovery, demonstrating the resilience of the domestic industry. As the landscape continues to evolve, industry experts see this trend as a positive indicator for future releases and overall market stability.
