White Belt

Description

Rick Dale works to become a writer while training at a predominantly male Jiu Jitsu gym in Los Angeles. His plans are disrupted when a new student, Tay, joins the gym and challenges the status quo. In an attempt to intimidate her into leaving, Rick discovers that she is a respected author whose work he admires. This revelation forces him to reassess his ambitions and consider a bargain: he will train under her in exchange for her guidance in writing. As Rick engages with Tay, he confronts the uncomfortable truth about his writing skills and begins to realize that he has been avoiding his true potential as a Jiu Jitsu champion. The film combines comedic elements with darker reflections on ambition and identity, moving quickly through its narrative while balancing humor with moments of introspection. The cast includes David Brubaker and Malcolm McRae.
