Ukraine Ghost Ship

Description

Dmitro Kobaliaa, a Ukrainian archaeologist, leads an international team in the wake of the June 2023 bombing of a hydroelectric dam by Russian forces. This disaster resulted in extensive flooding, destruction of homes, and loss of life, while also revealing ancient ships’ timbers along the Dnipro River. As the team uncovers these remnants, they aim to document the story of a vast Russian military flotilla that sought to control territories along the Black Sea coast, a conflict that continues to this day. As fighter jets fly overhead, Dmitro's efforts focus on preserving Ukraine's historical narrative, which is under threat from ongoing aggression. The film captures the tension between modern warfare and the quest to uncover and protect the past. The cast includes individuals committed to this archaeological mission and the struggle against erasure of their heritage.
