The Phantom
Description
"The Phantom" is a documentary film that examines the life and legacy of Rubén Santantonín, a significant yet elusive figure in the Argentine avant-garde scene. Commissioned by two female producers, the film features David Lamelas, a former collaborator of Santantonín and a notable conceptual artist in his own right. The narrative unfolds as Lamelas, accompanied by a young film crew, collects archival materials, interviews curators, and documents the few remaining works associated with Santantonín, as well as other prominent artists such as Luis Felipe Noé and Marta Minujín. As the film progresses, Lamelas confronts various gaps and contradictions in Santantonín's story, revealing complexities within the artistic community of the Instituto Torcuato Di Tella. In the middle of the film, tensions arise as Lamelas struggles to reconcile his memories of Santantonín with the fragmented history presented through the archival footage and interviews, challenging the clarity of the narrative they are attempting to construct. The cast includes David Lamelas, Constanza Feldman, Victoria Baldomir, and Carmen Iriondo.
