The Beauty of the Donkey
Description
This documentary presents a unique perspective on the aftermath of conflict by focusing on personal narratives and collective memory. In 2026, Dea Gjinovci returns to her father Asllan's hometown of Makermal, a village in Kosovo that was devastated during the war. Accompanied by her father and the remaining villagers, they seek traces of the past amidst the ruins and stories left behind by survivors. The cast includes Dea Gjinovci, Asllan Gjinovci, Leart Gjinovci, and Aliosha Cheyko. Alongside the exploration of personal histories, the film highlights the ongoing impact of war on the community's psyche. As they interact with the villagers, Dea and Asllan confront both the physical remnants of destruction and the emotional scars that linger in the community. This dual focus on the past and the present illuminates how memories shape identities in the wake of loss.
