Tears of the Lonely Army of the Golden Triangle

Description

The film follows a group of former soldiers from the Republic of China army as they attempt to establish their identity and legacy within the lawless confines of the Golden Triangle, a region shaped by conflict and the drug trade. After the Chinese Civil War in 1949, General Li Mi's Yunnan Anti-Communist National Salvation Army retreated into this remote area, growing into a significant force but ultimately becoming isolated. The documentary captures their struggles as they confront the realities of their existence as a “lost army” in the dense jungles of Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos. As the soldiers reflect on their past and the choices that led them to this point, they face challenges from local authorities and shifting political landscapes. Their attempts to reclaim their history and secure a place in the modern world are met with resistance, leaving them in a precarious situation. The film concludes with the soldiers still entrenched in their fight for recognition, without resolution to their ongoing struggle.
