Red Beast

Description

Eetu Salin, a working-class agitator and one of the founders of the Finnish Social Democratic Party, seeks to maintain control within the party amidst rising tensions. He faces opposition from younger radical socialists eager to push for a more violent approach to class struggle. Eetu struggles with his own childhood traumas and alcoholism, which complicates his efforts to advocate for peaceful methods of achieving social change. Alongside his allies, Väinö Tanner and Yrjö Mäkelin, Eetu fights to prevent the working class from being drawn into a violent revolution. As the conflict escalates, Eetu's commitment to non-violence is put to the test. The internal strife within the party intensifies, and Eetu must confront not only the external threats to his ideals but also his personal demons. The film, set in a crucial period of Finnish history, concludes with the characters facing an uncertain future, caught between their aspirations for social justice and the growing calls for radical action.
