Par monts et par drailles

Description

Jean-Louis Perrier, a transhumant shepherd, has been practicing his craft since 1965 in the Cévennes. The documentary follows him as he continues to uphold traditional pastoral practices, including transhumance on foot and the careful tending of sheep flocks. Alongside him are passionate young shepherds who share his commitment to preserving these age-old customs. However, they face significant challenges such as the resurgence of wolves, diminishing fodder, stringent regulations, and the precarious state of the sheep farming industry. As Perrier retraces the paths he has walked throughout his life, he highlights the mental map he has created over decades in the landscape. The film raises awareness about the dangers of land closure due to the decline of transhumant pastoralism, emphasizing the urgent need to address these issues.
