Nicole, 55, and her mother Alberte, 87, live in a villa on the shores of Lake Geneva, where they are trapped in a cycle of codependency. Nicole struggles with autonomy, while Alberte fears loneliness, creating a dynamic that complicates their daily lives. Their interactions reveal the challenges they face as they rely heavily on one another for emotional support. As Nicole develops a closer relationship with her niece Lauren, who is also the filmmaker, she begins to question her situation and consider the possibility of independence. The film follows Nicole’s tentative steps toward emancipation, highlighting the tension between her desires and her mother's fears.
