Description

The film opens in a dimly lit prison cell, where Pipás Pista, a notorious Hungarian assassin from the 1930s, awaits execution. The narrative unfolds after his arrest, revealing his life as a woman who adopted a male identity. In prison, he begins a relationship with Irma, a pastor's daughter who teaches him to read and write. This bond grows stronger as they share their hopes and fears, creating a significant connection that ultimately leads to a plea for clemency on Pista's behalf. As their relationship deepens, Irma faces dire consequences for her involvement with Pista. The film highlights the manipulation and corruption that shape their lives, remaining relevant a century later. In the end, Pista is granted clemency, but the cost weighs heavily on both him and Irma, leaving them in a precarious situation where their future remains uncertain.
