Le Faux Soir
Description
A printing press whirrs to life in November 1943, as members of the Independent Front, a Belgian resistance organization, work to produce a spoof edition of Le Soir. This act of defiance aims to satirize the German occupiers and challenge the narrative propagated by the nation’s main propaganda-controlled newspaper. The film chronicles this crucial moment in history, often regarded as the first act of media hacking. As the resistance members face the constant threat of arrest, they must handle the logistics of distribution while evading the watchful eyes of the occupying forces. The cast includes Peter van den Begin, Alexis Manenti, Arieh Worthalter, and Mara Taquin, who depict the tensions and risks involved in their clandestine operation. Their efforts not only embody the spirit of rebellion but also highlight the power of media in shaping public perception during a time of oppression.
