Description

A murder occurs in Chuschagasta, northern Argentina, when a man and two accomplices attempt to evict members of the Indigenous community. Armed and claiming ownership of the land, they kill the community leader, Javier Chocobar, in a crime captured on video. The film documents the aftermath of this event, highlighting the nine years of protests that follow before any court proceedings are initiated in 2018, during which the killers remain at liberty. "Landmarks" combines the voices and photographs of the Chuschagasta community with courtroom footage to provide context for the long history of colonialism and land dispossession that contributed to this tragedy. As the film progresses, it reveals the community's ongoing fight for justice and the challenges they face in confronting a system that has historically marginalized them.
