La priora

Description

Carmen Ladrón de Guevara sits on her patio, looking out at the old Carthusian monastery she rescued in 1980. Once a thriving cultural center and gathering place for European artists, the Charterhouse now stands under new control, a site of past dreams and present conflicts. Over the decades, her vision for this space has shifted, as external factors have altered its purpose and direction. The documentary "La priora" chronicles Carmen's relationship with the monastery, juxtaposing her memories of revitalization with the reality of her current detachment. As she observes the building daily, it symbolizes a lost dream that continues to haunt her. The film examines the tension between her past contributions and the present state of the Charterhouse, leaving Carmen caught in a struggle between nostalgia and the starkness of her new reality.
