La Pietà

Description

The film presents the lives of seven Icelandic siblings who chose to live in isolation at the foot of Europe’s largest glacier. Their story centers on their dedicated observation of ice and nature, a commitment made long before climate change became a recognized issue. The family’s abandoned farmhouse serves as a central location, transformed into a living archive filled with photographs, objects, and a 16mm film that conveys their past existence. As Ragnar Axelsson and Ingvar E. Sigurðsson contribute to the narrative, the film reconstructs gestures and spaces that reflect a way of life that has vanished. The siblings’ legacy is marked by their intimate relationship with the environment, now overshadowed by contemporary concerns about climate change. The film concludes with the siblings facing an uncertain future, left to confront the impacts of a changing landscape and the remnants of their former lives.
