Inner Emigrants

Description

Three volunteer crisis-hotline psychologists confront the challenges posed by Russia's totalitarian landscape, their patients’ emotional needs, and their own mental health. As they provide support to individuals in distress, they must also manage the pressures of living in a repressive environment that stifles free expression and exacerbates mental health issues. The film follows their daily struggles, highlighting the emotional toll on both the psychologists and their patients. Each character faces a unique set of dilemmas, torn between their commitment to help others and the fear of repercussions in a society where dissent is dangerous. As the situation becomes increasingly dire, the psychologists find themselves questioning their capacity to continue their work in such a hostile climate, leaving them with a sense of uncertainty about their future and the well-being of those they serve.
