I Don't Know What I'm Doing Here

Description

"I Don't Know What I'm Doing Here" is a blend of adventure and documentary, chronicling Mima, an American college student, as she travels to rural Romania to uncover her grandmother Esther's past. Accompanied by her friend Jacob, a film-school dropout, and Ayana, an 18-year-old translator she found on social media, the trio searches for clues in the village where Esther was born. Utilizing unmarked photos and oral histories recorded years earlier, they trek through the landscape, aiming to piece together Esther's life and legacy. The film presents a unique approach to personal history, combining elements of travel and discovery with an exploration of familial connections. As they scale walls and wander through fields, Mima's quest leads to unexpected revelations about herself and her heritage. The cast includes Madeline Kohn, Jacob Pincus, and Ayana Stefanescu.
