Fourteen Nights
Description
The film presents a unique challenge: recounting fourteen nights within the confines of the Basilica of Arantzazu. Filmmaker Oskar Alegria isolates himself near the sanctuary's organ, inviting pianist Iñar Sastre Lopetegi to create music that reflects images he cannot see. This collaboration results in a series of nocturnal vignettes that explore the artistic vision of Basque artist Jorge Oteiza, culminating in a collection of fourteen distinct experiences tied to the number of apostles Oteiza managed to place on the temple's façade. As the narrative unfolds, each night is marked by its own particular darkness, symbolizing a deeper exploration of artistic expression. The film highlights the intersection of music and visual art, culminating in a visual and auditory representation of Oteiza's legacy. Through this process, Alegria and Lopetegi summon a frieze of fourteen moons, each reflecting a mystery that contributes to the overall artistic endeavor.
