Borges and Me

Description

23-year-old Jay Parini, a conservative student aspiring to be a writer, finds himself driving through Scotland in a Morris Minor with the renowned blind author Jorge Luis Borges. While Parini seeks inspiration and guidance from Borges, the vast differences in their perspectives create tension. Borges, at 70, exhibits a wild and irrepressible nature that contrasts sharply with Parini's quiet demeanor, complicating their interactions as they embark on this unconventional road trip. As their journey unfolds, the pair confront their contrasting views on life and literature, leading to surreal and unexpected experiences along the way. Their initial misunderstandings gradually shift, prompting discussions that challenge Parini's worldview. The film's middle section highlights these encounters, showcasing how their relationship evolves amidst the picturesque Scottish landscape and the intellectual exchanges that arise from their time together. The cast includes Peter Mullan, Harriet Sansom Harris, Fionn Whitehead, and Luis Gnecco.
