Boomah

Description

Power struggles in the slums of Jordan define the lives of those who inhabit them. Boomah, a volatile street enforcer, survives through petty extortion and intimidation, as crime is often the only means of survival. Children traverse the dangerous streets she controls, learning the harsh realities of their environment. Boomah's relationship with these children is contradictory; she frightens and exploits them, yet also provides a semblance of protection, reflecting her own troubled past and fractured connection to motherhood. As a new, organized criminal force begins to reshape the underground economy, Boomah faces increasing threats to her existence. The independent lives she and other women have carved out become more precarious, forcing her to confront the harsh realities of survival. The film moves quickly through its dark narrative, blending moments of stark violence with fleeting humor, ultimately revealing the grim dynamics of a world where violence is a means of labor and the burdens of motherhood weigh heavily.
