48/49 - Revolution in Baden
Description
The “Salmen” inn in Offenburg becomes the site of a significant gathering in September 1847, where citizens present 13 demands aimed at achieving freedom of the press, establishing trial by jury, and implementing fair taxation. The local populace's desire for a representative parliament sets the stage for a revolution in Baden. By April 1848, Friedrich Hecker leads a volunteer militia from Konstanz, while Gustav Struve proclaims a republic in Lörrach later that year. As the Baden army aligns with the revolutionaries in May 1849, a provisional government emerges following the Grand Duke Leopold's flight. The uprising faces suppression when Prussian troops intervene, culminating in the surrender of the fortress of Rastatt on July 23, 1849. The film features the cast, which includes Christof Bastert, Cornelia Bastert, Michael Blume, and Stephan Brachmann.
